Hello World
Here’s a new bee emerging from it’s cell, not something you see every day.
One of the great thing about gardening and beekeeping is that we get to see things many people don’t.
Have you seen anything amazing recently in your garden?

Nothing like this! I was thinking of you yesterday while reading a book called “A Short History of the Honey Bee: Humans, Flowers, and Bees in the Eternal Chase for Honey”. It’s by E. Readicker-Henderson, with images by Ilona. And its amazing. Not just for the images, but also for the thoughtful text and the way that it creates images in its own right of all the senses. Have you read it? It’s pretty short, about 150 pages, and well worth the time I think…. Anyway, wow again on your newly emerged honey bee! Adding to the work and the sweet honey of the hive… .

A pumpkin vine worked its way into the barn and now a large pumpkin is hanging right over the lambs’ water container. Not so much amazing as amusing.

Neat!
Is it a drone? How are your bees doing? Are you starting fall preparations yet?
to Clelie's comment
Yes it is a drone, it was actually a whole frame of drones so we took them out. We’re currently feeding some essential oil sugar syrup for mite treatment.

I have gourds!…I’ve never had gourds before, they are so very cool!
Yes, we’ve kept bees for so long I forget to stop and think about just how amazing they are, although I do think of them everytime I put honey on my toast…wonderful photo! Kim

That emerging bee is awesome! I think everything in the garden is kind of miraculous actually – but the strangest thing this year has been the mutant pumpkin that is basically twins fused together but joined at one vine/stem.

The most amazing thing I have seen in the garden this year has to be the garter snake that ate a pretty big toad. Here is a shot of it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/21950260@N05/3571651675/

…I love that! Isn’t life just awesome?! :o)
…Nothing exciting like that happening here. The last exciting thing to happen is I got a mating pair of Buff Cochins and a pair of Black Langshans. I’ve already named the Buff Roo’, who is a huge sweetheart, “Puff Daddy”, and the Black Langshan Roo’ is named “Mr. T”…lol
…Have a great weekend! Blessings too…

I love hearing about your bees :)
Those moments are what makes the mundane stuff fade away… all the small miracles scattered through the garden days. Today I watched one of my boys having his own moment with something; he was lost to the world, investigating some treasure intently in the vege patch.

Every time I go into the hives I giggle because it always, always feels like a television nature special. Sometimes I narrate to myself.
I’ve seen bees doing the wiggle dance, and actually watched virgin queens hatching. Heard them peeping to each other.
Actually, it’s all a wonder out there. Right now I’m wondering when those tomatoes are going to get picked. . .
