Quote of the Day: Humbert Wolfe

October 25th, 2009

“Listen! the wind is rising, and the air is wild with leaves,
We have had our summer evenings, now for October eves!”

Humbert Wolfe, 1885-1940

Fire

October evenings are perfect for fires and smores. There’s nothing more relaxing than sitting around the fire, I especially love them this time of year when the evenings are crisp and clear.

What’s your favorite fall activity?

Love the scent of fallen sugar maple leaves. Scuffling through them on an autumn stroll always reminds me of the best of this time of year.

Hi, Susy, Any idea why your CommentLuv widget didn’t work with my last comment? The checkbox seemed to be checked. (I see it’s working now. Ah, the whims of technology!)

I’ve had that happen before as well, not sure what’s going on there.

I love walking in the woods during the height of the fall season. The leaves underfoot, the smell of them too, and the canopy of color and falling leaves… enchanting.

I think anything that gets me outside to see the beautiful leaves. Even the view from my family room right now is stunning.

I’ve enjoyed being your Flickr friend and thought I’d stop over for a visit. What a delightful question.

So far this fall I’ve been road tripping across the Midwest researching a book about farmers markets, which has been the most fun I’ve ever had. Now that I’m back I realize how much I miss the weekend farmhouse in southwest Michigan, with a fire pit in the back yard. All I need is a cider doughnut and mug of something warm, a plaid blanket and the red Adirondack chair. . .

I saw a fire pit on sale yesterday and thought it would be a nice thing to have this time of year. This one looks so cozy.

I actually love to rake leaves – at least until I get a blister.
