Quote of the Day: Nigel Slater

June 1st, 2014

You can’t smell a hug. You can’t hear a cuddle. But if you could, I reckon it would smell and sound of warm bread-and-butter pudding.

I’m a big fan of bread pudding, the sweet form for the savory version you have at Thanksgiving or for breakfast. It truly is a comforting dish! It’s been a long time since I’ve made a batch, seems like it should be on the menu soon.

What’s your favorite comfort food?

Just give me a bowl of noodles and homemade gravy. Really hits the spot.

A good bread pudding is right at the top of the list, also any kind of fruit tart as well as fruit crisps.

Susy, as you probably have guessed my comfort food would be apple pie. The traditional way a special piece of apple pie is eaten in rural Nebraska is as follows. First the slice of pie is heated just enough to melt a slice of cheese when put on top of the pie. After the cheese just gets soft but not totally melted a big scoop of vanilla ice cream is plopped on top. Mmmm, yum. I’m feeling comfortable just thinking about it.

Have a great comfort food day.
