I often watch the weather and plant my seeds right before it’s supposed to rain. I like that they get watered in right away and I always hope it speeds germination. This is what I’m feeling this week, the peaceful patience of waiting for seeds to germinate and grow. The radishes I planted last week are just springing forth, very soon I will start to see spinach, arugula, cilantro, onions, beets, and a few other seedling emerging from the soil.
What seeds have you planted this week?
I have only planted indoors. I started tomatoes, cabbage, squash and marigolds. I put plastic over one of my raised beds a week ago and will plant some radishes and lettuce today. It’s been pretty cold in northern Wisconsin.

Susy, yesterday was a day of hard labor at Terra Nova Gardens which left little time for blogging. Over the last three years a brush pile has been accumulating from the clearing of the garden area there. Yesterday was the day to rent a chipper and grind up the pile into wood chips to be used in the garden. When all was said and done I think maybe three or four cubic yards of woods chips was in the pile.
This week will be the week to set out the bucket tomatoes as the night temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s. Cabbages with be planted and the seed started tomatoes and green peppers with potted up as they say in England. Terra Nova Gardens stands ready to be planted. Well mostly ready. Grass mowing has officially started so now there will be a steady flow of nitrogen rich clippings to use in gardening. So much to do and so little time left before the warm weather planting begins.

I started some seeds and transplanted them to larger containers to wait for them to be large enough to go out…we are still experiencing frost so they need to hang in there a few more days/weeks. They look sad though, so I may just buy starts at the Farmer’s Market again.
