Knock, Knock, Knock

February 21st, 2018

We’ve been having fairly warm weather, which means the snow has melted off leaving some bare ground. I think this time of year is rather ugly, but the birds get really excited. They spend their days scratching around on any thawed portion of earth they can find. Once they’re done with that they come hang out on the stoop waiting for me to give them some food.

I’d rather they not do this, as they leave little gifts all over the front walkways. This weekend I plan on putting up a few electric fences to not only keep them contained, but to protect them from the foxes that will start trying to nab them here soon.

What’s happening on your front porch this week?

Susy, my front patio was covered with ice two days ago and now 3 inches of snow with another promised inch. Then one sunny day before more freezing rain and snow on Saturday. Last year at this time I was out working on garden structures and the tulips were starting to come up. Not this year. No working in the garden and no tulips coming up. It always amazes me when perennial bulbs know when to start sprouting. It’s one of natures mysteries. So by Saturday night my front patio will have an ice sandwich on it. Nice.

The up side is that I’ll have one more chance to head down the school yard slope on the toboggan. :-)

Have a great bare ground day in Maine. I suspect the snow is coming.
