Busy Season

March 25th, 2019

It’s been a busy spring here, after a busy winter. I’m not sure where the time went, but alas, it’s already the end of March. Planning vacations in spring is never a good idea when there’s maple sap to be collected and seedlings to tend, sometimes that’s the way of it. While I’m busy planning to be gone in France, I’m madly collecting sap, cleaning coops, and trying to get ahead at work.

Maple sugaring is always a favorite activity of mine. It gets me outside just as the weather is turning nice. I get to enjoy a warmer sun on my skin and get to feel the earth thawing beneath my feet. A big bonus is the sweet reward that comes in the form of maple syrup. Sugaring is for me, the harbinger of spring. It’s the one activity that signals that spring really is coming.

What activity signals spring for you?

Here in central Western France lots of blossom out and some magnificent magnolia trees as well. Some trees are turning green as the leaves are coming out.
Where are you visiting in France?

We are going to be flying to Paris, then up to Giverny, then beaches of Normandy memorial, then Villandry, then back to Paris for 5 days (Mr Chiots has a few meetings in Paris, which is the reason for our trip).

Giverny is beautiful but try to get there before or after the masses descend from their coach trips. Villandry is something else. The precision of the garden design is so pleasing if you like that sort of thing. The chateau is well worth a visit as well.We have been several times as its only a couple of hours drive from home. I’m not sure what will be in the gardens at this time of year. Should be plenty of blossom on the trees. If the weather is good the Loire valley is so beautiful even in late winter or early spring. Bon voyage and enjoy your trip. I look forward to seeing some photos.

Susy, My signs that spring is here is when the spring flowers begin to grow and the Robin’s show up.

Have a great day planning your trip while sugar mapling.
