On Being Lucky + Ethel Glove Giveaway
I never set out to become a photographer, writer, blogger, or social media strategist – those things just kind of happened along the way. Often the best things life are those that we stumble into because of an interest or hobby that we have. It’s not that I’m especially lucky; I work hard, put in lots of hours, and I’m finally reaping some rewards (a few more great things in the works). The quote by Thomas Jefferson, “I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.” is quite true, at least in my case.
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you know that I started working for Ethel Gloves last year. After singing about my love for them here at Chiot’s Run, they contacted me and wanted me to blog for them. Then they started asking me to use a few of my photos in their publicity. Pretty soon they were sending me gloves to shoot for their various campaigns.
Now, pretty much all the photos you see at Ethel came from my camera (my hands, Mr Chiots shooting). My keyboard is the one that updates their Twitter & Facebook accounts, and yours truly is curating their Pinterest Boards. I’m happy to work for a company that makes a product I love and use almost every day.
The great thing about this job is that it helps me pay the bills associated with this blog. Since I had to upgrade to a virtual private server a few months ago the bills are getting quite high each month! Another great thing about it is that I get to do giveaways! All you have to do is comment on this post and you’ll be entered to win a pair of Ethel Gloves. Congrats to Crazy Lady Farm who is the winner of this contest.
What has you feeling lucky lately? If you’re lucky enough to win a pair of Ethel Gloves, which ones would you like?

I am so impressed with the photography and the gloves! I wish to win!

After years of living rather frugally in the same house,we are purchasing a little cabin near a lake to live in for the summers. I feel very lucky for this opportunity. It is a fixer-upper however, so I would love a pair of gloves that are heavy enough to tackle some projects on the cabin.

I love the Jubilee ones! Thanks for a chance to win these terrific gloves!

I couldn’t agree with you more. I don’t believe in luck, but I do know that if you follow your passion, things will come to you.
Love the shot of the gloves drying on the clothesline. Green is good.
Thanks for a chance to win!

I lost my highly paid Executive Assistant job when the economy tanked. I was Lucky enough to be able to go back to school for re-training in a field that I love – Landscape Horticulture. I was Lucky enough to be able to secure an Internship at the Jen Jensen designed landscape of the Henry Ford Estate. During this past year of additional unemployment I was Lucky to attain my Advanced Master Gardener status while working at the Taylor Goodwill Garden and the Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry Garden. And now I am VERY LUCKY to have become a member of the team at SE Michigan’s premier wholesale Nursery. I get to use all my admin skills surrounded by beautiful trees and shrubs, working with people who love their work. Although I make less money, I can continue to live, work, and volunteer in my community. I am VERY LUCKY!

A little Ethel story that happened the other day about the utility glove.
I was outside and my neighbor came up and was chatting. She said that she had a pair of my gloves that my son had left down there when he was helping her and that she had been using them. Then she asked where I had bought them because she liked them so much. I mentioned your blog and said that I would order her a few pairs, which I will do today!
She is outside alot and always working in her yard like myself. She said that she has had lots of gloves and these were the first that she has ever really liked!
I would be happy to win anything. I think most of the designs are great!

Cute gloves make all the difference and when they are sturdy and reliable all the more perfect! I love the rendezvous.

I agree with yours and Mr. Jefferson’s comment about hard work and lucky. We often make our own luck. They started clearing my land yesterday and the construction of my 1st home will begin. It sits on 3.55 acres and there is a traditional kitchen garden planned. Gloves would be a great accompaniment,

After 16 years I feel lucky to finally be able to move back to Ohio to be near my children and grandchildren. Now I have to make a new garden and flower beds.

I’m feeling fortunate that my husband and I are both able to be in school, pursuing our degrees of choice, while still making ends meet. I feel lucky to have most mornings together, with our coffee, exploring the spring offerings in our garden!
If I were to win, the lightweight, sustainable gloves seem right up my alley!
to Jennifer L.'s comment
Really nice gloves, and for free, hey it sounds good to me.

Oh man, if I had any money right now, I would totally be buying the Garden 4X gloves. Right now my hands are pretty much one giant blister because I haven’t had a chance to go out and get some garden gloves yet, and the dirt in the spot I chose to put a garden needed some hardcore pitchfork action last weekend.
to Erin's comment
I’ve been eyeing these gloves ever since you started praising about them. I would be ecstatic to be afforded any pair given. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to share in your delight!

Love my Ethels! Received my first pair this year as a bday gift!

I don’t believe in luck but I do believe in blessings. I feel very blessed to have our new home. Thanks for the giveaway, I love the new canterbury glove.
to Songbirdtiff's comment
I really like the canterbury, but I like the snakeskin also!

Your hard work, blogs, and photography really do inspire me to pursue my hobby with all the gumption you have. I look forward to seeing your work and really do appreciate all the effort you put into it.
If I could pick any Ethel gloves, I would definitely get the Rose gloves – they would be awesome for prickly fruit bushes!

I love that they have bamboo… Love the moss coloured ones :)

I’d love to win. I don’t believe in “luck”, but hard work almost always pays off, doesn’t it?
to Tracy's comment
I like the blue floral regency gloves!

I feel lucky in so many ways. As I put in our garden I feel lucky that we are able to have the land to do it. I am waiting for my baby llamas to be born (always a magical time) and have started my herd of dwarf milking goats…with babies, so it will be a while until we have milk and cheese…but it’s coming! I love all the Ethel gloves, but Rondezvous and Snakeskin are my kind of style. Thanks for the giveaway and all you teach us.
to Gayle's comment
I’d love a new pair of gloves. My problem is that I usually have to buy a pair of men’s gloves because my hands are so large. When I go to buy women’s XL, or if by chance, XXL, there are no more to be had. Color doesn’t really matter to me, I’d just like something that fits.
to Rhonda's comment
For a fancy day, definitely the regency gloves. For a serious work day, definitely the leather gloves.
to Hailey in MT's comment
I would love a pair of these ethel blue floral regency gloves-thanks for the chance to win-have a wonderfully productive day!!!

Thanks for hosting a giveaway! I also want to thank you for inspiring me to plant in my garden.!!!
to Maura's comment
Any day in the garden is a good day. A day with great gloves is even better. :)

I bought a pair of Ethel gloves for my Mom for her Christmas stocking last year, based on your recommendation. So I guess she is lucky that I read Chiot’s Run; and I am lucky that you write it. And Ethel is lucky for both!
Have to say that I love the look of the Jubilee glove you’re wearing above.
to kaela's comment
Of course, green has always been my signature color, but the days of using high-odor plastic dip on the fingers of my old store-boughts are over. The fingers would always wear out, sometimes days after purchased.
Seaweed Ethels do it all. Sturdy, breathable and best…machine washable!

Just recently started reading your blog and am thrilled to find another lover of Ethel gloves! I had a pair of Rendevouz several years ago–they got me through everything from garlic planting to weeding to harvesting for market. I loved them so much that I wore them completely out. When I went to the garden store to replace them, I was horrified to find out they no longer carried Ethel gloves. So began an endless parade of gardening gloves that I have no problem wearing out in half the time. Every time I have to put on another flimsy pair, I dream about the good old days of my Ethel gloves. They’re great!
to Meredith's comment
I do love those sage ones…
to Kate @ Snowflake Kitchen's comment
those are some beautiful gloves. They all look good (especially to this mama who often ends up wearing mismatched gloves….) but the jubilee are especially nice. :)
to Anne-Marie's comment
Ive been waiting patiently for Angie to surprise me with a pair! Thought for sure she got me some for Easter. maybe Shes waiting for Mothers Day! I would love any pair. Angie and I talk about your blog daily! We enjoy it so much and are amazed by all you do!

I love the way that the bamboo gloves feel on my hands!
to Krista's comment
I have to say, the photographs of gloved hands doing things in the garden were the things that attracted my attention on your blog while I was browsing, and it was one of the main reasons I put your blog on my blog reader. Now I love reading all your posts!
to Deborah's comment
I am in outstanding need of gloves. I have never tried these and would love to. Oh, how I would sing their praises! I own a greenhouse and small produce farm. gloves are needed!
to Charise Charly McOmber's comment
I agree with you. My husband and I have worked hard and it just seems like we are continually blessed beyond measure. We aren’t really out looking for the good things that have come our way – they just seem to happen.
I would love another pair of Ethel Gloves… I have never ever been able to stand wearing most gloves as my hands are small and most gloves don’t fit and get in the way more than they help. I bought a pair of the Signature gloves last year and I love them. I am torn between Jubilee or maybe a pair of leather gloves for the tougher chores around the farm…
to Beth K's comment
Love the Jubilee ones! They look great in your photo.
to Rachel Koniar's comment
I feel so lucky to have moved, almost 2 years ago, to a lovely old neighborhood north of Pittsburgh with my husband and young children who are all healthy and vibrant people. We all love being outside in our yard and expanding gardens. I would pick the Plum gloves.
to JennW's comment
I love the blue ones in the picture!
to Kelly's comment
I like all the styles and colors, but would be interested in a pair that is made in the USA.
to Jan W.'s comment
I am very lucky to find you on Flickr today. I saw your Erythronium Pagoda photo. And then, I went to your blog and to recieve about this post via my Facebook! Your story is very impressed me. I love Jubilee, Snakeskin and Regency. Although I live in Japan, have I get a chance to win, too?
to Sanae's comment
I LOVE my gloves! I used them at a church work day and had many folks ask about them. I would really like a pair of the saffron.

I feel lucky that 5 and a half years ago, I got a job where I can work at home in my pj’s! It’s a great job with a great team of people! Working for Ethel sounds like fun!
to Melissa's comment
we love your site and as fate would have it, I am currently unable to find my gardening gloves! the jubilees are awfully sweet.
to stephanie's comment
I’d absolutely LOVE to have a pair of those gloves and I’d appreciate and use ANY color/style – they are all gorgeous! I also have really big hands, so like Rhonda, I struggle to find women’s gloves that fit! Men’s gloves are often too long, and ladies’ gloves are usually too tight. I feel like goldilocks – I need a pair that are “just right” LOL :)
to Sherri's comment
I’d go with the garden4x!
to Janet's comment
Very informative and beautiful blog. LOVE these gloves! I usually get the Signature ones, but would love to try the Jubilee.
