On Being Lucky + Ethel Glove Giveaway
I never set out to become a photographer, writer, blogger, or social media strategist – those things just kind of happened along the way. Often the best things life are those that we stumble into because of an interest or hobby that we have. It’s not that I’m especially lucky; I work hard, put in lots of hours, and I’m finally reaping some rewards (a few more great things in the works). The quote by Thomas Jefferson, “I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.” is quite true, at least in my case.
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you know that I started working for Ethel Gloves last year. After singing about my love for them here at Chiot’s Run, they contacted me and wanted me to blog for them. Then they started asking me to use a few of my photos in their publicity. Pretty soon they were sending me gloves to shoot for their various campaigns.
Now, pretty much all the photos you see at Ethel came from my camera (my hands, Mr Chiots shooting). My keyboard is the one that updates their Twitter & Facebook accounts, and yours truly is curating their Pinterest Boards. I’m happy to work for a company that makes a product I love and use almost every day.
The great thing about this job is that it helps me pay the bills associated with this blog. Since I had to upgrade to a virtual private server a few months ago the bills are getting quite high each month! Another great thing about it is that I get to do giveaways! All you have to do is comment on this post and you’ll be entered to win a pair of Ethel Gloves. Congrats to Crazy Lady Farm who is the winner of this contest.
What has you feeling lucky lately? If you’re lucky enough to win a pair of Ethel Gloves, which ones would you like?

I already have two pairs for myself, and I gave them as christmas gifts this last christmas! I LOVE these gloves! I would like to try the leather gloves next. I have been eyeing them!

I bought a pair of ethel gloves a few months ago on your recommendation and I’m so glad I did. I’ve been looking for years for a pair of gloves that “fit like a glove” and these are it. I won’t be wearing any other kind from here on out.

I have been reading your post for months now. You have inspired me to bring some of your ideas to my garden and kitchen in Las Vegas. Thanks to you and your husband for sharing so many of your daily activities. You are truly appreciated! And if I was lucky, I would choose Rendezvous, size L.

I’ve been trying to narrow down which glove I’d like to get for this season. I think the Leather glove would be perfect, I love green/tan combos.

I would love to try these! I would pick regency, Thanks for the chance!

Hello – I feel lucky lately for the same reason – I love my job. I am lucky enough to work for a ballet company and love, love, love it! :-)
My fav Ethel glove would be the leather one (with green accent) it looks like I could do some heavy duty work and keep my hands blister free.
Thanks for sharing
Janet

I love the ones you are wearing. I always wear out my gloves.
to Elizabeth's comment
I like the rose 4x gloves, it is hard to find a good long garden glove. I also like the rendezvous glove for everyday garden work.
I feel lucky that I have three healthy, well adjusted, young adult children.
to Bonnie's comment
I go through so many pairs of gloves per summer…those looks pretty and functional. Would love to own some!
to Sherri's comment
Oooh I love those plum bamboo gloves! I have tiny hands though so I’ve ordered plenty of gloves that just aren’t comfortable. I’ve gotten used to dirt under my fingernails, but maybe Ethel Gloves are the answer??
to Cece's comment
Wow, already 163 comments, I’ll never win, but these look like fabulous gloves. I tear up gloves in such a short time. Maybe I’ll get around to seeing if I can kill theirs as quickly one day. If by a miracle I won, I’d try the Susan G. Komen bamboo pair in memory of my Grandmother who died of breast cancer.

I’ve already busted through two pairs of gloves this year. I would love to win the Snakeskin gloves.

I have been reading your blog for several months now and look forward to it everyday. We have several things in common including our introverted ways & love of gardening. :) Thank you for all your inspiring posts and comments. They will keep me coming back here for a very long time I’m sure! I especially love your ethel gloves #5.
to Monique's comment
I bought my first pair because of you talking about them on this blog! They are the blue ones you have pictured. I would love a pair of pink ones to use when my blues ones are wet!
to Candie's comment
I love your blog, it actually inspired me to start my own blog about gardening in Hawaii. I found that there was a lack of good gardening blogs in our climate zone. I haven’t tried out Ethels gloves yet, but my pair is on their last leg so I’m thinking I’m going to upgrade to a different brand, if I could have any of the pairs I would say the snakeskin is my type for sure.

I use to have a pair of long garden gloves for my vicious rose bushes but I wore them out. I would love the Rose 4x gloves.
to Jodiana's comment
Those gloves are so pretty, but I tend to be kind of rough on gloves. There are some serious weeds in my yard that tear gloves up in just days. The Garden Utility Glove looks like it might stand up to my type of weeding. Would love to win a pair

I so love these gloves, they look beautiful, like a “real” pair of gloves, not gardening gloves, I am not aware of them here in Australia and realise that you give away is probably only for US residents, and thats cool, I just wanted you to know that their (and Your) appeal is worldwide. xxBrenda

I like the leather glove, and the Jubilee traditional glove. I can really wear out a pair of gloves pulling bermuda grass out of my coarse sandy loam.
Enjoy your blog very much!

I’ve been wanting a pair for quite some time now, I’d just really like to try them on first and they’re not sold anywhere nearby.
I really like the brown Signature gloves.

I feel lucky to have healthy & happy children who love being outside with me :)
I LOVE my Ethel leather gloves. I’d like to try the bamboo gloves :)

I bought a pair last year.. They’re quite wonderful..
Should I win, I would love the Canterbury.
I also see that there is a 1/2 off sale going on.. Might have to grab another pair, quick!

I love all your pictures and I would love to try a pair of gloves!

I am glad to hear of all the wonderful things that are coming your way. Hard work does pay off. I would love to try these gloves. Right now I use an old pair I have had for years from Burpee, and I think my garden would appreciate me coming out in a stylish pair of garden gloves instead. I would choose the Jubilee.
to Virginia's comment
I am so incredibly blessed, even in the midst of crazy reconstruction around our home. It has pushed the children and I outside and our vegetable and flower garden has really flourished from that. So I feel that even though it is a mess on the inside, the outside is benefiting even more.
If I were to win, I would want the Jubilee!
Thanks for the chance and blessings as you continue in your labors!
to Chas's comment
I have never heard of these gloves until now! Wow, they look amazing! I would love to have a pair of the Canterbury ones.
to Tara V's comment
I would adore a new pair of gloves, I literally just decided the day before yesterday that I need to get out and overhaul the garden. I’ve been in a funk since a big breakup forced me to move an hour away from where I’d lived and gardened. Knowing that my current location wasn’t permanent seemed to keep me from doing what I enjoy, but no more! I’m going to bloom where I’m planted, so to speak. I would adore a pair of the Signature, Sage, or even Garden Utility. I would honestly love to put any good pair of gloves to use, making the world a happier place :) Thank you for the wonderful blog, it has been such an inspiration!

I see there is extra protection on the fingertips. I have a problem wearing out the fingertips on the right hand and keep sewing the holes shut. Thanks for letting us know about Ethel Gloves.
to S.K.'s comment
My dear sweet but very sneaky dog chewed a hole in my pair of Ethyl’s. I would LOVE to have a free replacement!
Peace,

I feel lucky enough to have owned two pair of these clothes in the Breast Cancer Awareness Pink!! These gloves are the only ones that fit my petite hands. Unfortunatly both pairs are wore out from so much use. I wouldn’t really care what kind or color they are all great!
to Alicia Demmitt's comment
I feel lucky that friends and family are starting to be more receptive to my nonstop waxing poetic on eating organic and growing your own!!! Everyone comes to me for advice now, and I love to help. (I’d want the green leather palm gloves if I won a pair! :D)
to Veronica Flores (@VeronicaInLA)'s comment
Lately, I’m feeling lucky to have good friends nearby. I think all the gloves look great, but I’d like to try the Leather gloves if I won! Thanks!
to Becky's comment
Oh, I *love* Ethel gloves! Sadly my local garden shop doesn’t carry them anymore, so I haven’t been able to add to my collection lately. I hadn’t seen the Garden 4X ones before your link to the site – they are fabulous and I definitely need a pair or two.
to Anne's comment
I’m not feeling especially lucky lately, but like you & TJ, I have some hard work to put into a personal project I’m working on, and then I think my luck will change for the better. If I were lucky enough to win some gloves, I think I’d pick the tulip ones. Tulips are one of my fave flowers. Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
to Angela's comment
I love the saffron gloves. I too have been feeling lucky, as things are finally coming together for me. I just bought a house and can finally garden again, and just got my first bee hive!
to sarah's comment
I was just talking with a friend farmer of mine yesterday, as she was admiring my gloves. She expressed an interest in the Garden 4x gloves, and I thought it’d be worthwhile to try and win them for her hard-working hands.
to Kat's comment
I really like Ethel gloves. I found them at a Home Depo in Denver awhile back and use them at work allllll the time. I work in theatre and it is so hard to find gloves that fit female hands and are light weight, enough to protect from rope burns but not to get in the way!
love them!

I’m feeling lucky because last night I saw the first sandhill cranes of the season–a true harbinger of spring in Alaska.
I would love leather Ethel gloves for heavy duty outdoor work.
to Jenny's comment
Would love to try these gloves. I have very large hands with long skinny fingers and have not found a pair of gardening gloves that work for me. I love your rants. Have you started your ginger again this year? I would love to see it flowering.
to marti schmehl's comment
I, for one, am thrilled you are working for Ethel, as I’m not certain I would have heard of them otherwise! I have a pair of Jubilee, as shown in your first picture, and love them!
I would be so so happy to have another pair- I’m doing so much gardening and yard work these days that my pair are always dirty. It’d be great to rotate! I would like to have a pair of the Garden4x- they look very hardworking!

I love the Tudor gloves! What a cute pattern.

Snakeskin. Love the name and love the gloves.

Why do I feel lucky lately? Because I finally quite my job. I decided my time was better spent in the garden.
:) Mavis
The signature gloves are my favorite because they are the color of dirt.
to Mavis's comment
I have never tried these gloves. The pictures are fabulous. I would try the Jubilee or the Blush gloves in a size medium. I could put them to the test.
to Carol Moss's comment
Well, if I win the gloves, I like the blue ones with the curlicues. Although I’d prefer you just send me your garden, ok?
to Jennifer Krieger's comment
I would love to get my hands on a pair of Ethel gloves (the Jubilee ones), especially since it is impossible for me to order them to my country… I have even found a UK website for Ethel gloves, but they dont´t take international orders…
to Kiskin's comment
I’m feeling lucky with all the wonderful Earth Day celebrations I’ll be attending this weekend! Right now I have the traditional gloves, but would love to add in some of the rose pruning gloves for clearing out the poison ivy and all the other plants growing around it!
to Kat's comment
I would love to win a pair and try these beautiful gloves. I think that I would chose one with a floral pattern. They problem is I love them all. Beautiful photos. So happy for all of your success :)
